I have learnt that I have to improve my Chinese speaking skills and pronunciation by a lot. I also have learned that good teamwork will produce an efficient result. It is usual to be able to differentiate the writing and the speaking Chinese through the help of our friend from mainland China. It's very easy for our group to discuss, execute and finalize the project because we have similar visions and perspectives. Regardless, I face a few difficulties. First, it is my pronunciation. I really love how our native friend can speak fluently without pausing. It really inspires me to practice in order to achieve that. Another difficulty is to use technology to incorporate sounds into podcast. I am not a computer-savvy or technological lover, so I have a problem of trying to find good sources to convert files and record media. Luckily, my group mate is very skilful at it. The last difficulty facing is a venue to record the podcast. It is not easy to find a proper place to record because everywhere in the NUS is noisy. Nevertheless, we manage to get it done well.
This project is not only useful but also an eye-opening experience for me. First and foremost, I learned and practiced how to use the new words taught in Chinese 2 properly. The most challenging yet enriching part was during the podcast recording itself. In Chinese 2, we learn several words with similar sound but different tones such as mai (mǎi 买 which means buy and mài 卖 which means sell). At first, it was really hard to pronounce the words with the right tones and clear articulation. Fortunately, our native Chinese speaker was really helpful. She pointed out our mistakes and taught us patiently how to pronounce the sentences. We practiced and recorded several times. Besides this problem, there were also some minor technical problems such as background noises. In the end, I am satisfied with the resulted podcast in which I finally managed to speak Chinese clearly. Hopefully, it will be beneficial to the listeners!
